The World Organization for Peace is a non-profit institution and its function will be to preserve human life on the planet and outside of it.
This Worldwide Organization, WOFP/OMPP, will conform to the guidelines of the United Nations, which is the ruling parent organization that together with the countries which are members, determines and proposes the destinies of our humanity.
The Organization and its “Sport and Peace” programme especially aims to promote peaceful dialogue, healthy competition and ethical and moral education through sport, within endless paths, in order to ensure a culture of lasting peace and contentment for all.

The book Football and Peace in the World 2003–2006 was presented together with FIFA
and OMPP WOFP at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Author: Carlos Peralta, President of the World

207 Football Associations and Federations took part with their presidents, delivering a message
of peace to the world, along with the six Continental Confederations of five continents and England.
Messages of Football and Peace were signed by the presidents of the organizations that form part of
FIFA. The opening message of peace was given by Joseph Blatter, President of FIFA, and the second
message of Football and Peace was expressed by Julio Grondona, Vice-President of FIFA.

Lionel Messi in 2006, once the book was completed and before it was presented in Munich to the
signatories of the Football for Peace messages: the President of FIFA, Joseph Blatter, and the
Vice-President of FIFA, Julio Grondona, together with the 207 presidents of the Associations and
Federations that are members of FIFA across 207 nations, and the presidents of the Football
Federations and Confederations.
The first promoter was Lionel Messi, then the recent FIFA 2005 champion with the Argentine
national team in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The youngest of the footballers received the first copy
and enthusiastically supported the worldwide dissemination of this work of Football and Peace.

This silver ball is, by its dimensions, the largest in the world: 1.60 m high, 24 panels made
entirely of silver and the word PEACE in 24 languages, one on each panel.
The electors were 185 Secretaries General across 185 nations, who voted by a majority for
Lionel Messi as the candidate for Man of Football and Peace. This is the largest ball in the
history of football. The voters weighed Messi’s outstanding sporting ability and his generosity
towards underprivileged children and humanitarian aid.
